Smithsonite is a rare zinc carbonate that is sometimes referred to as "zinc spar." James Smithson, a British chemist, and mineralogist were for revitalizing given this stone's name (1765-1829). The Smithsonian Institution was formed by James Smithson in Washington, D.C., and Smithsonite was recognized as a separate mineral in 1832. Smithsonite is the second greatest zinc industrial ore in the world, behind Sphalerite. This stone is regarded as the least popular gemstone due to the rarity of gemstone grade. As a result, gem collectors rather than jewellery makers were looking for this stone. The bona mite is another name for Smithsonite, which is found as earthy botryoidal masses.
