A variety of the mineral zoisite, which is pink in colour, translucent, and contains manganese in massive or crystalline form, is known as thulite. The name rosaline also knows this mineral. Up to two per cent of the structure can be composed of manganese instead of calcium. The mineral thulite is frequently spotted with patches of white calcite and can be found in veins and fracture fillings. In the literature of mineralogy, the term "thulite" can sometimes be used to refer to any pink zoisite. The variant of monoclinic clinozoisite that contains manganese is referred to as clinothulite.

In 1820, the mineral thulite was found for the first time in Telemark, Norway.

Due to the widespread misconception that the island is located in Scandinavia, it was given the name Thule, after the legendary island of Thule. In the production of jewellery and other ornamental items, thulite is frequently employed as a gemstone and a material for carving.
