First India Diamond & Colorstone Show also takes off : As a prelude to the India International Jewellery Show-2009, the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) introduced the India Diamond & Colorstone Show (IDCS) on 4th August, 2009. Veteran Diamantaire Kirtilal K Doshi, Chairman Emeritus Shrenuj & Co. Ltd. was the chief guest. Kirtibhai has been associated with the diamond industry for the last 67 years and was instrumental in introducing Laser Technology to the Indian gems and jewellery industry.

New Launches at IIJS 2009 : Every year many innovations and jewellery lines are launched at the IIJS. This year some of the noteworthy launches included GIA's New Sealing Service for Diamonds. The new service seals the diamond with its key grading information in a credit card-sized, tamper-resistant package. Other launches included designer dresses and accessories in silver, trendy and intricate designer jewellery and online portals. .

MEGA JEWELLERY SHOW - JAS With the successful presentation of its mega colored gems & jewellery Show JAS. India's traditional colored gems and jewellery centre-Jaipur has added not one but a whole bunch of vibrant feathers to its glorious Pugree (Turban). Defying Monsoon fury and the lingering global meltdown, the color extravaganza of this gems city was held with memorable pomp and pageantry as it coincided with Teej folk festival of Rajasthan. The visitors were so eager to watch the spectacle of jewellery that they gathered in large number even before the Show was formally opened. The opening ceremony of the Show was marked with a huge cavalcade of horses and elephants lined up to welcome the visitors and exhibitors to the Show. .

The Jewellery Show, which left an indelible mark on the memory of Jaipurites and numerous outsiders, had a grand opening and even grander run thereafter. The Show, besides winning hearts of visitors and exhibitors, witnessed a lot of trading. The Show, in true sense emerged as the rainbow amidst the dark clouds of recession. There was no sign of global downturn during the event. Apart from comprehensive collection of sparkling jewellery, the four-day Show displayed latest trends in the jewellery world, heirlooms, advanced machinery, new marketing techniques plus each and everything related to the shining world of gems and jewellery. The extravaganza was organized by the Jaipur Jewellers Association as the latest annual edition of its trail-blazer. .

Well Attended Inauguration : JAS-09 was formally inaugurated by the Home Minister of Rajasthan Shanti Dhariwal and Tourism Minister Beena Kak. Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) Chairman Vasant Mehta and All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation Chairman C.Vinod Hayagriv were the chief guests of the function. In her inaugural speech, Tourism Minister Bina Kak said "Jaipur city would soon have an Exhibition Centre to host Shows of such magnitude. The previous Congress government had initiated some affirmative actions to launch an exhibition centre in Jaipur. Now the present government will take up this task as the jewellery industry urgently needs such a centre for its growth, she added. that the JAS- Show will also become part of the State Tourism Calendar. It will boost tourism also as the Show attracts a large number of tourists to Jaipur. .
Jaipur Jewellers Association President Vivek Kala stated "India has no competition in handmade jewellery". Jewellery Trade Federation Chairman C. Vinod Hayagriv said, "The good news is that the colored gems and jewellery segment of the precious industry has created a net set of customers. Youth has come up with a new demand in the country's jewellery sector." Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council President Vasant Mehta observed that the show is grand and the retail market will be benefitted by this popular event. .

JAS Jewellery Design Award : The Show also highlighted the Jewellery Design Award function. To promote such designers who are continuously involved in creating some thing new, the Jewellers Association had organized a jewellery design competition - for the All India Jewellery Design Award-09. The aim of the award is to bring forth the talents of designers. The competition evoked tremendous response and 165 entries were received. The theme of the competition was 'A Journey Through Colors'. The competition was divided into four categories : 1.Wedding Jewellery-Bride. 2. Wedding Jewellery-Groom. 3. Casual Wear Jewellery and 4. Fashion Accessories. Fair Trade Seminar : .

A Seminar on Benefit of Fair Trade in Emerging Markets was also held on the second day of the Show. The keynote speaker, of the seminar was Fair Trade Forum of India's Executive Director I. Mallikarjuna who said that interests right from craftsmen to customers are safeguarded in trade fairs. He added that the rules outlined are essential for fair trade. The best-designed booth was also awarded. Ram Das Agarwal, Member of Parliament, reviewed the booths and presented the booth award. .

Face Book Event : The organizers conducted a unique event for the Face Book Members in which a large number of face-to-face club members met in person with each other which resulted in concrete discussions on formation of potential business relations. In the Internet age, we have an opportunity to share our thoughts with various like-minded people through face book. People, related with gems and jewellery trade from across the world are also members of such face books wherein they share their experiences and thoughts through blogs. .

Visitors Thronged the Show : The grandeur and glamour of the Show attracted celebrities and glitterati in a large number. The event was marked by the presence of tourism minister Bina Kak along with her family. She was delighted to see such a large and exclusive range of jewellery designs in the Show. She also visited every stall and found something new in each of them. Kak also ordered several jewellery items for her personal use. Other eminent visitors also graced the show on all the four days. Member of Parliament Ramdas Agrawal, cine star Prem Chopra, MLA Ashok Parnami and Mayor Pankaj Joshi were among others who visited the Show and did jewellery shopping. A welcome feature of the Show was that people from smaller towns and villages also visited the event. .

Popular Raffle Draw : The Entry to this Show was through Lucky Draw tickets. Every day there was a prize of jewellery worth Rs 50,000 on the lucky coupon selected through a draw. On the final day, the prize was enhanced to jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh. .
